The Campaign FOR Truth & Reparations

Four hundred years ago, in 1619, the first Africans were brought to the North American continent. The time has come for reparations.

All our ancestors are calling us to heal one of our nation's deepest wounds. While there are different narratives of what reparations could be, we believe the dimensions of spirituality, healing, and system change must be at the center of this conversation.

The question of reparations is spreading quickly in both the public square and the private living room: from the rhetoric of aspiring presidential candidates, to op-eds in national media, to commemorations of historic events that have sparked our social and political consciousness.

The Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR), the Truth Telling Project (TTP), Restorative Justice for Oakland Youth (RJOY), Coming to the Table (CTTT), representatives from the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America (N’COBRA), and others have come together during the past two years to think about how reparations in our lifetime might be possible.

We're working with various religious and faith-based traditions to focus on slavery and its current impact by supporting conversations during a reflection period beginning June 19, Juneteeth.

Read more about this upcoming reflection period, which will lead directly into the first National Days of Reparations for Spiritual and Faith Communities (August 11th & December 22nd).

These days will transform us all through learning, reflection, prayer, sermons, and offerings rooted in reparative justice that directly supports Black-led grassroots organizations and programs.
