Open a Civil Rights Case For Trayvon Martin

Open a Civil Rights Case For Trayvon Martin

We, as people of faith and moral conscience, ask that Attorney General Eric Holder at the Department of Justice open a civil rights case against George Zimmerman, who shot and killed Trayvon Martin.

Our faith and moral traditions inspire us to stand up against the violation of fundamental civil rights, including the right to life. A jury has acquitted Mr. Zimmerman after he took a life. We respect the jury's decision but we will not rest in demanding justice for Trayvon Martin.

We urge the Department of Justice to file civil rights charges against Mr. Zimmerman today.

Why is this important?

The verdict is out, but our fight for justice is far from over. As people of many faiths and beliefs, we stand with the NAACP to ask the Department of Justice to open a civil rights case for Trayvon Martin. Join us in building a groundswell of #Justice4Trayvon.

How it will be delivered

We’ll make sure that the letter, including your signature, ends up in the hands of the NAACP who are communicating with decision makers at the DOJ.

Reasons for signing

  • We need to help create a culture in which all life is held sacred and in which wanton violence against someone is not accepted. Also, Americans should be able to see those who differ in color and class without fear.
  • Justice can not be served with without continued investigation and awareness of the presence of racism and discrimination in the ways that we interact.
  • Justice was not served in this case. Justice for Trayvon, justice for innocent teenagers, justice for unarmed citizens, justice for America.
